Autofiber Wash and Decon Tools, Decoded | Pro Guide

Most wash-bay damage does not come from the chemistry. It comes from what touches the paint. A mitt that traps grit, a clay tool run dry, a wheel brush with no give: the tool decides whether a good soap does its job or leaves marring behind. Autofiber builds the contact tools. Here is the Autofiber wash and decon lineup we stock, decoded, and which chemistry to pair it with.

Autofiber In One Paragraph

Autofiber is a microfiber and applicator brand built around wash mitts, decon tools, wheel mitts, and drying towels. What sets it apart is that the tools are built for one job each. The manufacturer publishes sizes and materials for its mitts, and it sells the extended-reach Mitt on a Stick system with swappable covers. That is the lens for this guide: pick the tool by the job, then pick the soap or lube that matches. If you want towel-by-towel weave guidance, that lives in The Rag Company Towel Guide.

The Wash Mitts: Wash Monster And Dragon

The Wash Monster Car Wash Mitt is made from an extra long pile microfiber and measures 9 in. x 7 in. Autofiber says it holds "tons of suds" while gently agitating and releasing dirt. Long pile is the point: the fibers pull grit away from the surface instead of dragging it across. It is the everyday hand-wash mitt for cars, pickups, and fleet units.

The Dragon Hybrid Sponge Mitt Pad is a different animal. It measures 9 in. x 8 in., has an opening on one end so it works as a mitt, and ships with two layers of removable foam inner so you can dial in thickness. Use it as a mitt, or pull the foam and use it as a pad. One tool, several handling styles.

Mitt On A Stick PRO+: Reach For Big Vehicles

The Mitt on a Stick PRO+ is the tool for anything tall. Autofiber calls it "The Ultimate Wash Tool for Large & Tall Vehicles." It is a pole system with interchangeable covers: Korean Plush (Dragon), Noodle/Mesh, Wash Monster (Plush), Holey Clay, Scrub Ninja nylon brush, Dreadnought drying, Bug Scrubber mesh, and a lighter-drag Stubbie Noodle. Autofiber also says you can run it with your favorite microfiber towels. Pole options come in several configurations, so check the exact one on the listing before you order.

Think roofs, hoods, truck cabs, trailers, tall equipment. The refill Wash Monster Plush cover is the wash head. Full truck-wash workflow is in How to Wash a Semi Truck.

PRO RULE: ONE COVER, ONE JOB. Do not run the same mitt on paint and wheels. Do not run a wash cover on clay. Autofiber sells a cover for each task, so use that and keep a color code in the bay. Cross-contamination is how grit gets on a panel.

Wheels: The Wheel Paw

The Wheel Paw Plush Micro Mitt is built for wheels and rims. On Autofiber’s product page the Wheel Paw is a 75/25 plush microfiber, 700 GSM, edgeless, 8 in. x 7 in., with a thumb and two independent finger sections to reach into tight spaces. It is meant for brake dust removal while staying suitable for sensitive wheel finishes. Pair it with a wheel cleaner sized to the finish: Koch-Chemie Magic Wheel Cleaner for the Koch-Chemie route, or Malco Brake Off Non-Acid Wheel Cleaner for a non-acid Malco option.

Decon: Perforated Clay, Used Right

The Holey Clay Decon Sponge is a clay tool with perforations that let debris flush through. Autofiber describes the sponge line as thin and soft to reach tight spaces, with a fine-grade formulation intended to minimize paint damage. For the mitt version, the manufacturer states to apply lubrication generously and continuously on both tool and paint, and to condition new clay by scrubbing it on glass with lube first. That break-in step is not optional.

For lube, Koch-Chemie Clay Spray is made for the job. Koch-Chemie describes it as a mild, low-residue lubricant with excellent lubricity that minimizes surface scratching, does not leave a film, and wipes off with a microfiber cloth. It is applied undiluted. Koch-Chemie also says to check suitability and compatibility before use. Full technique, step by step: How to Clay Bar a Car.

Match The Soap To The Tool

A quality mitt does not fix the wrong soap. Two solid options for wash work:

Koch-Chemie Autoshampoo. A phosphate- and NTA-free vehicle shampoo for gantry systems, wash systems, and hand washing. Koch-Chemie lists it as pH 9 and VDA Class A conform. For hand washing, the data sheet calls for a 1:150 dilution. For mechanical systems it lists undiluted or 1:10 through a dosing pump. Keep it from drying on the surface.

Malco CW-37 Premium Car & Truck Wash Concentrate. A phosphate-free, biodegradable, high-foaming concentrate for automatic, semi-automatic, and hand wash operations. Malco lists a 1:400 ratio, or 1 oz. per 3 gallons of water for hand washing, and says water softness may call for adjustment. It is described as high in lubricity and safe on existing wax protection between details. The brand’s own Prop 65 notice applies.

Both suit a high-volume wash line. Wash routine details: The Two-Bucket Wash Method.

The Bottom Line

Match the tool to the job. Wash Monster for daily paint. Dragon when you want flexibility. Mitt on a Stick PRO+ for anything tall. Wheel Paw for wheels and nothing else. Holey Clay with plenty of lube. Then match the soap: Koch-Chemie Autoshampoo or Malco CW-37 depending on your system. Every surface. Every season. Every machine.
